Facts of Lyfe: Wanna be a rap superstar?

It just keeps getting better. But, it feels like just last week I was doing this [You were]. And now, it's already time for another SMACKDOWN with the Facts of Lyfe.

I had some issues coming up with a topic for this week's Facts, and with alot of counsel [james goodman, alex furgeson, and kalissa], I have decdided to use none of your suggested topics lol. Well, Alex kinda. But the other ones will appear in future FACTS, trust me.

Todays topic is RAP SUPASTAR!!
You wanna be a rapper and get paid? just follow this weeks FACTS OF LYFE, and trust me, you'll be in the big leagues.

Ready? Let's do it.

Fact: You must place yourself in a category: gangster, back-packer. concious. southern. eastcoast. westcoast. etc....

Fact: Each category had TOO MANY DAMN SUBCATEGORIES! but you must also choose one. Let's examine.
West Coast: Bay area, Gangster, SoCal, Punk, Alternative [alt. will be used to describe those not recognized by the mainstreem]
East Coast: NYC, DMV, Philly
Southern: ATL, HTOWN, any thing encompassed in the state of Florida, random ass states in between texas and Georgia, Ratchett, N.O. Bounce, New Orleans
Back-packer: Hipster, alternative, concious
okay im done. too many

Fact: You must have an extensive crew and entourage with a really cool name.

Fact: You must have your own clothing line or exclusively support/wear some high fashion line.

Fact: You must enlist the hottest producer at the time to produce some of your songs.

Fact: You absolutely MUST talk reckless on any DVD magazine interviews. This is crucial, because the 13 year olds that actually BUY these insteada lookin' at them for free on the internet must BELIEVE in your gangster.

Fact: You have to take a formerly homosexual trend and make it cool. Or, you can be openly homosexual and make it cool.

Fact: You must associate with a notorious gang. Bloods and Crips or old news so take the side road. Don't forget about the Vicelords, Latin Kings, Folk Nation. They need love too.

Fact: You must name yourself after a notoroiously violent drug dealer from your hometown and claim his street life as your own. If you're from some place that doesn't have this commodity, then just make one up, along with your street life.

Fact: You must beef with at least ONE prominent rapper.

Fact: You must sleep with Rocsi from 106 and park.

Fact: You must tell all media outlets of your fiasco.

Fact: You have to make a coonerific song with a trendy dance to match. The best way to do this is to use old nursery rhymes or children's games that originated in slavery and put them over deep bass and claps.

Fact: You must talk like you only made it to 3rd grade grammar and/or language.

Fact: The only topics to be found in your songs are topics of awesome adultery, good gangsterism, hollywood hatin' , and stuntastic ballin'.

Fact: Your beats must have a chopped and screwed voice on the chorus with 70's soul music sample of a song you probably never heard or know any thing about.
....man it's alotta facts this week...okay a few more.

Fact: When asked in an interview who your influences were, you must respond by saying, "I ain't have no influences, just mah niggaz"

Fact: When speaking on political or world issues, the only commentary you should give is..."that's bullshit yah know"

Fact: You must make a song about your favorite shoe, with Jermaine Dupri. AND have T-Pain do the chorus

So i'm still in westbubblef*ck [for those of you who don't know im in Tulsa for an internship, have been for a while now]
and i am staying at the University of Tulsa...go figure...

anyway, i am in an on-campus apt. [the grey between the harbors and harkness hall], and i was connected to the university internet....
so. being a REGULAR COLLEGE STUDENT, i have LIMEWIRE on my laptop and have had it for a while.....

well when i got my rent bill for july....985 bucks...i paid and the lady says "You still owe 250..."
dude I was like huh?.....
she says they charged me for HAVING ILLEGAL DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE
so long story short...I won't be writing too much until i scoot my lil ass back to theeast coast lol...

Duran Butler.
Doesn't sound like you're run of the mill rapper from the A' by way of Waldorf, Maryland.
U'd expect to here Yung [Gun name here], or Lil' [major drug dealer name here], or maybe even Baby [first letter of their first name here], or some random acronym.



But no, not this Hampton graduate [that's right folks, he graduated from college......ooo no applause we only clap for prison graduates i forgot].
Duran, who's rap name is SIMP, is ready to unveil to the world what he calls a "back to the basics" project. So Doc' and Marty McFly better look out, cause Duran is back from the future and hungry like a wolf!

Duran on any "chemical assistance" used in the production of this album:
Lol! No pharmaceutics were used for the making of this album. I'm all natural...call me the "Whole foods" of Hip Hop [whole foods is AWESOME, specially the granola crunch mmmm].

Duran on what he specifically takes "back to the basics" on this album:
All of the above really. I like to focus on the [raw] nature of hip hop; the passion, the struggles, the emotion...that's what it's about. We've lost that. Now it's back!

Duran on the effect he wants this album to have on its listeners:
I want people to take notice of talent and not the fashion, glitz and glamour of the music. Bentleys and Platinum chains don't make good music [at least if you're not signed to Cash Money lol]. Artist make good music. If your listening I want you to get the art form and take a piece of each song with you.

Duran on how he was able to put out a MIXTAPE and ALBUM at the SAME dAMN TIME:
Well ive been doing this for years so the material isn't a issue. Material is around us everyday. It's a matter of taking what we see, do and experience and put it in word form. But, foreal foreal; I was in the studio like that. Lol

Duran on how he got some datpiff whateva whateva downloading and I DIDNT lol [sore loser]:
I'm not sure what happened with the datpiff thing, but sonicbids is a membership only site that you gotta pay for. It's good because it allows you to create an EPK (electronic press kit) to send to promoters. A&Rs or whoever. I'd recommend it.

Duran on the Duran/Deron mixtape:
Lol! Deron is to busy to do a mixtape, so he told me to call his people and schedule something. Lets just say I got the voicemail...

You won't catch my mugshot in the next TMZ or Perez Hilton Blog; I'm not built for that type of scene. I got too much good in my life for the negative. I don't personally do fashion, but shots out to Vincit by CMA [from the VA Beach area, also Hampton Men and Women, We get's biizzzy]. I've done a few shows out here in the Atlanta area, or "The A," but right now I'm just focused on this album.
